The Divine Bird Did Not Come

About event

"The Divine Bird Did Not Come" — This play depicts the tragic fate of Süleyman Əfəndiyev, who has lost his true purpose and now seeks spiritual redemption in his past and childhood. After the last person who knew about all his past sins dies, Süleyman decides to return to his hometown. There, he faces many things: the house where he was born and where he now wishes to take refuge in his final years, the memories of his loved ones, the vengeance of a woman whose life he destroyed, and the Divine Bird, which has turned away from him. Süleyman's son, Mustafa, opposes his return. This conflict sheds light on various truths—lies, sins, and shows the audience how a person not born out of love struggles in a whirlpool of misfortune. Ultimately, Süleyman faces the bitter truths of his life and becomes the victim of the Divine Bird, a mystical and mythical figure symbolizing the conscience bestowed upon humanity by God. Directed by Anar Babalı and based on the play by Cavid Zeynallı, this psychological drama, staged at the Lankaran State Drama Theatre, delves into themes of sin, revenge, and deception.
