Hungarian composer Imre Kalman, with this work written in 1915, confirmed his status as an artist striving to keep pace with the magic of the contemporary world, breaking free from the whirlpool of spiritual romantic feelings, and challenging classical forms. He succeeded in creating the world-famous operetta "Silva," telling a pure and innocent love story between two young people.

The great love affair between cabaret singer Silva Varescu and Edvin Vedlersheim, the son of a wealthy family, disturbs those around them, especially Edvin's family. His parents decide to betroth Edvin to someone else, a decision that redirects events into a new course—the struggle for the young couple's love begins.
